I'm Francesco De Felice, a King Crimson & Pink Floyd lover. I saw the KC concert in Rome on 24th June 2003 and it was incredible: RF opened with a 10 minutes Mie gakure, then the band played CostruKCtion of the light, Shoganai, Dinosaur, One time, Larks' tongue in aspic IV, Elephant talk, Red and so on... Belew played his solo "acoustic" Three of a perfect pair.. Sorry for the guitar tab appeared on ET iussue #1146, it was a caos because I don't know all Windows tricks yet... The stick was such an integral part of these records that he posed with one in the photos for the second album's cover." I would definitely second Alphonso Johnson in the mention of noted Stick players. Actually, the cover shot of him posing with the Stick was for his third (and weakest) solo album 'Spellbound'. But the best tracks from his two earlier and best solo albums 'Moonshadows' and 'Yesterday's Dreams' (and a couple from 'Spellbound') are available on 'The Alphonso Johnson Collection' a "Connoisseur Collection/Sony Music (UK)" cd which came out in 2000 (an import obviously for those living outside England). Anyway, it's a nice long cd which most importantly represents the best of his solo '70s stuff, and features excellent remastering and sound quality. Definitely some classic 70's funk fusion featuring Al on bass, guitars and Stick alongside George Duke, N. Michael Walden, Chester Thompson, Ray Gomez, Patrice Rushen, Ian and Ruth Underwood, etc. The only negative I can think of with this disc is that it doesn't list individual musicians for each track (you'll need the original vinyls for that!) -- n.p.: Ornette Coleman & Prime Time- Opening the Caravan Of Dreams (live Forth Worth, Texas, 1983): vinyl to cdr transfer ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Oct 2003 17:01:56 -0400 From: Dan Buxbaum Subject: trivia question: Name a cd (who knows, there might be others) that features amongst its musicians credits: Fred Frith, guitar; Pierre Moerlen, drums; and David Cross, violin. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Oct 2003 16:16:59 -0500 From: "Gerardo Liedo" Subject: Confirmed KC date: Mexico City November 17 In addition to the CGT touring Mexico now we have the first date of King Crimson confirmed - November 17, 2003. The venue will be now AUDITORIO NACIONAL (http://www.auditorio.com.mx/) but as far as I know instead of the 10,000 full arrangement it will be a smaller size configuration (I think 6,000), great sound there!! Can't wait!!! The last visits I remember were in Austin, the double trio in 95, and Projekct 3 in 99. I can't comment on whether there were any Dallas, or Houston shows. I asked Pat specifically at his show with Terry Bozzio last year, whether he was going to play his home town. (I mean it's been almost 5 years). Didn't really receive a firm answer. I'm perplexed. With all the musicians in town, it's an easy sell-out for KC, all they have to do is book the show. The shows here would easily be as attended as something in Nashville. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Oct 2003 20:03:14 -0400 From: "Jack Bross" Subject: Re: Frying Pan JLBurgos said: >The contents of second DVD and the new KCCC is the same. >Is a dirty trick to force to buyers to purchase both. There is at least one improv that was apparently left off the DVD, and will be on the KCCC release, presumably. On the other hand, there's a healthy chance that said improv was on the Heavy ConstruKction set (we'll know more when the DVD comes out in a few days). What you get for your $15 will be one improv (possibly not really new) and a sliver of whatever photograph they'll be building on the back spines of the CDs. Also, possibly some extra applause, and maybe even an extra few seconds of Ade saying "thank you, goodnight!" or the like. And a couple of paragraphs from somebody in the band commenting on the night. And some random chunks of Robert's diary in the liner notes. Seems like a rip-off to me. Even weirder, the audio of the DVD will be released as a more general release CD (apparently), so you can buy the same basic thing three times if you really want. Also mysterious is the comment that the audio of the London concert wasn't considered good enough for wide release. Umm, this is the same concert they've just remastered in glorious Dolby 5.1 surround, right? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Oct 2003 10:30:24 +0300 (EEST) From: j laari Subject: Re: School of Rock Greetings, and thanks for the film review, Alan! In my opininion Ade, although he may be multitalented musician, is not a great lyricist. In fact King Crimson has offered me a lot of embarrasing moments by listening nowadays lyrics. I prefer anytime R. Palmer-Jamess or P. Sinfields lyrics to A. Belews. Although Boz Burrells singing P. Sinfields lyrics were near inattentional comedy. English isnt my native language, but I think the main reason is that A. Belew is an american and I am an european. Petri Haapa The New Yahoo! However many of you may not know that this group have *many* unreleased songs in the archives that, in my opinion, are crying out for release (Collectors Club perhaps?). Anyway, I recently took advantage of the fact that Toyah's site was accepting submissions for questions from "fans" for a 25th anniversary interview and posted this question: > In an interview circa 1997 you revealed that things were set for the > release of a SUNDAY ALL OVER THE WORLD live album featuring many > otherwise unheard tracks. This album has never appeared. Now that certain > elements of your back catalogue are returning to your control is it more > likely that we will see the release of this proposed album or any other > "lost" recordings? Unfortunately the people responsible for selecting which questions would actually make the interview did not find my question up to the standard expected in such circumstances and it did not make the cut. As a matter of comparison here is a question (not posted by myself) that *did* make the cut: >Is there anyone you haven't met yet who you'd like to meet for a gossip >over coffee? Eurghhh... So, looking forward, I have decided to post this here in the hope that enough people will show interest in this wonderful group and maybe, just possibly, something can start the wheels in motion over in Fripp &/or Toyah land to actually see the long-lost live SAOTW album finally released. In the hope of inspiring you all to write feverishly to ET (or myself, or the sources of the music) I include below a list of songs from the SAOTW tours (including the first tour under the name "Fripp, Fripp") which are *not* on the Kneeling At The Shrine album. All of these song titles are unique to this group (ie: they are not songs that Toyah has performed elsewhere) and the list was taken from the live archives at Toyah's official site. UNRELEASED SONGS 1. Cool Heart 2. Furnace 3. Requite Me 4. Born Again 5. The Big Sleep (Fripp, Fripp tour only) 6. Worst In Me 7. Stone Throwers 8. Screaming Head 9. In The Big Dream 10. Idiot Dancing There are also two songs from these tours that ended up on Toyah's post-SAOTW album Ophelia's Shadow (which featured basically the same musicians). These tracks are: 11. Brilliant Day 12. Lords Of The Never Known So, essentially we have 12 non-album SAOTW tracks. Enough to justify an archive release I'd say. It may be the case that some of these tracks were retitled and ended up on Kneeling At The Shrine or Ophelia's Shadow, but I personally doubt that. (For the record Kneeling At The Shrine features four tracks that, according to the archive at Toyah's site, were never performed live: Don't Take It Away, Answered With A Smile, Storm Angel & Freedom.) Just think, there's basically a second entire album of SAOTW material that has never been released! Now I want to hear that! As Max says, "Let the wild rumpus start!" I knew this from the credits of his 'Wise After The Event' album where he is listed as "The Vicar". This album also featured Michael Giles on drums; and the cd issue of 'Wise' was "Specially remastered for cd by Simon Heyworth at Chop 'Em Out" (always loved that name!) So, looking at the back of my 30th Anniv. Edition of 'Lizard', I see "24 bit remaster by Simon Heyworth and Robert Fripp at Chop 'Em Out, September 6-10th, 1999". I see that Chop 'Em Out has changed its name to Sanctuary Mastering (pity!) but the connection's still there. Of course, the final proof came from The Vicar's journals: "Are you interested in The Vicar's production techniques? Probably I suppose. It's the sort of trainspotter information that people like to see in books. So let's start by getting one thing straight. He does not think of himself as a musician. In fact, he famously left the first band he was in, saying that having two non musicians (him and the singer) in the same band was too much of a liability. But he has perfect taste, and an uncanny knack of finding the perfect performance." Of course, he sells himself (self-deprecatingly) short; he is a fine musician as is the "singer" referred to above. (unless I am wrong about all this!) The title track from 'Wise After The Event' is still one of my favorite "pieces". ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Oct 2003 10:08:57 -0400 From: Alejandra Alvarez Subject: New Tour ... and when KC coming to South America?
